Our dedicated activities staff offer lots of fun tours and social events, where you can meet up with other travelers and explore the city.

In addition to the regular schedule listed below, different activities are programmed every week, so be sure to check our activities board in the lobby. Also see our event calendar to for other free/low-cost outings in San Francisco.


Sunday "Supper of Love"
Sundays, 8:00p.m- when it is finished!
Cost: $1
Join us for a Sunday evening of "Flower Power" concerts projected on our movie screen, while enjoying a homemade San Francisco-Style dinner. It's totally groovy!

 

Macabre Movie Nights
Fridays and Saturdays! 10:00 p.m. - midnight
Cost: Free!
Every night, our lobby transforms into an old-fashioned movie house! Enjoy a campy '70s-'80s horror flick, projected onto a 6-foot-wide screen, and pretend to shield your eyes from the cheesy gore of The Lost Boys, Scream, or Tales From the Crypt, to name a few possibilities. So zombie-walk down to the lobby to catch a classic flick and snack on free popcorn, corndogs, and cotton candy.

Chinese Tea Tasting
Mondays, 8:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Cost: Free!
Our resident "tea master" Anthony shares various Chinese teas, explains their health benefits, and reveals some of the mysticism in San Francisco tea culture. Or in Anthony's words: "How often will you get to see a Greek Goth American performing an ancient Chinese tradition?"

Totally 80's Tuesdays!
Tuesdays, 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.!
Cost: Free / $2.00 (for dinner)
Join fellow hostellers for a night in the 80's!
Enjoy a homemade San Francisco dinner ($2.00 donation for Glide Memorial Church), watch 80'smovies in Ivy's, dance to 80's music video projections in our lobby, and get into our "rad" evening, like totally.

 

Hills of San Francisco Walking Tour
Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Cost: Free!
Join your guide Henry for an extensive walk along the streets and over the hills of some of San Francisco's most scenic neighborhoods. Learn the history and enjoy the views of Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill, Nob Hill, North Beach, and Chinatown. See some of the oldest homes in town as well as Lombard Street, Coit Tower, hidden gardens, stairways and alleys. Bring water, a snack, camera, pen, paper, and a map. Note: This tour leaves from the San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf Hostel.

Concerts on Screen
Wednesdays, 9:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Cost: Free!
For a bit of atmosphere, we project classic concerts on our movie screen every Wednesday evening. Great bands from Fleetwood Mac to The Doors, Madonna to Michael Jackson. Check our signs for weekly showings!

Polk Street Pub Crawl
Thursdays, 8:30 p.m. - midnight
Cost: Pay for your own drinks
Put on your drinking shoes, grab your ID (gotta be 21!), and join Ellysa and Mel for our weekly pub crawl. Sip some brew (or a cosmo? tequila?) at six of the best bars along Polk Street, near our San Francisco City Center and Downtown hostels. Meet a bunch of other travelers and enjoy a night out in SF!

Chinatown Walking Tour
Fridays, 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.
Cost: Free!
Join your fellow hostellers for a trip to one of San Francisco's oldest and most captivating neighborhoods: Chinatown. Though it's only a few blocks away from our Downtown Hostel, Chinatown is another world unto itself, bustling with shops and buzzing with people. Explore hidden alleyways, sip various Chinese teas, see mysterious historic temples, and visit the famous San Francisco Fortune Cookie Factory.

 

The Midnight Special
Fridays and Saturdays, 9:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Cost: Free!
A homage to the 70's television program, City Center projects live concerts that were featured on The Midnight Special! A great way to start off your night in our city!

History of San Francisco Social Movements
Downtown Walking Tour
Saturdays, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Cost: Free!
This fantastic walking tour with our volunteer, Dave, is pretty fast-paced, so get those walking shoes ready for a historic stroll (or power walk) through San Francisco. Explore the city's most interesting 'hoods, like Downtown, Nob Hill, and the Financial District at a swift and spritely pace. Note: This tour leaves from the San Francisco Downtown Hostel.

Mission District Tour
Saturdays, 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Cost: Free!
Wanna know where San Franciscans go to escape the fog? On weekends they make a beeline to the Mission, where the chances of it being sunny are high, and where art, culture, and nightlife thrive. Spend your Saturday like a local! We'll have a drink in a beer garden, eat a burrito, and people watch in Dolores Park. We'll also throw in a bit of history, and check out some murals and street art along the way. Note: This tour leaves from the San Francisco Downtown Hostel.
