American Conservatory Theater - One of San Francisco's most prominent stages, ACT offers half-price "rush" tickets to our hostel guests and HI USA members. Simply go to the box office up to 2 hours before showtime, and showing your membership card or paid receipt from your current hostel stay. The price of your ticket will vary between $7.25 and $40.00, based on the day of the week and seating section you choose. Tickets must be paid for in cash, and are subject to availability.
California Academy of Sciences - Named by Conde Nast Traveler as one of the "New Wonders of the World," the California Academy of Sciences is the only place on Earth to combine a natural history museum, aquarium, planetarium, four-story rainforest dome, and world-class research and education facility under one roof. Blending seamlessly into the beautiful landscape of Golden Gate Park, the Academy is the world’s largest public green building, and is topped with a living roof -- a 2.5-acre expanse of native California plants that provide a habitat for birds, butterflies, and insects. Experience the depths of a Philippine coral reef, climb into the canopy of a Costa Rican rainforest, and fly to the outer reaches of the Universe -- all in one place by visiting the "Greenest Museum in the World." The Academy offers our guests 15 percent off tickets for both general admission and Thursday NightLife events. To receive the discount, go to calacademy.org/etickets2 and click on "Create new user account using existing Sales Code" (just below the orange "login" button). Enter the Sales Code "SFHostels" (on the upper right of the page) and password "penguin" (both are case sensitive), then proceed with your order. Note: Discounted tickets must be purchased online or at our front desk.
de Young Museum of Fine Arts - The de Young originated from the 1894 California Midwinter International Exposition and was originally known as the Memorial Museum. Thirty years later, it was renamed in honor of Michael H. de Young, a longtime champion of the museum. The present copper-clad landmark building, designed by Herzog and de Meuron, opened in October 2005. It showcases the institution’s significant collections of American painting, sculpture and decorative arts from the 17th to the 21st centuries; art from Africa, Oceania and the Americas; costume and textile arts; and international modern and contemporary art.
